Our techniques
The practitioners at Beech House Clinic employ a wide range of proven techniques for each individual case. Below you'll find a brief explanation of the most common chiropractic techniques we use at the clinic.
Diversified
Diversified technique is the classic chiropractic technique, developed by D.D.Palmer DC. and taught in all chiropractic colleges. The focus is on restoring normal biochemical function to the spine. In addition, Diversified methods have been developed to adjust extremity joints, like knees, ankles and wrists, allowing for beneficial applications in treating sporting injuries.
Neuro muscular or Soft Tissue Techniques
The chiropractor or osteopath can along with manipulation (or instead of) treat the soft tissues of the body - muscles fascia and tendons. This can be done using different forms of massage and stretching including Trigger point treatment.
Trigger point
The primary purpose of trigger point therapy is to reduce the pain that results from hypersensitive muscles. Trigger points are identified by gently pressing on the surface of the skin, sensing the
texture of the underlying muscle.
A trigger point is like a knot the size of a pea, buried deep in the muscle tissue. It is made up of lactic acid, a normal byproduct of muscular activity, which sometimes gets trapped in the muscle
as a result of physical, chemical or emotional stress.
Dry Needling - Jon Vine, Peter Hands, & Alex Bowling
Dry needling is a highly effective soft tissue (muscles, ligaments and tendons) technique. A sterile acupuncture needle is used to penetrate trigger points. This penetration helps
deactivate the trigger point and allow the soft tissue to work more normally and with less discomfort. On some occasions the chiropractor or osteopath may feel it is beneficial for a patient to
receive dry needling along side manipulation.
Sacral Occipital Technique - Alex Bowling
S.O.T is a branch of Chiropractic which looks at the relationship between the sacrum (the middle bone of the pelvis including the tail bone) and the Occiput (the bone at the back of the head or skull). S.O.T recognises the importance of the cranial bones in health and disease. This is a method of diagnosing and normalising the relationship of the top and bottom of the spine.
Activator
This method is very gentle. It uses a hand held instrument which delivers an extremely fast, controlled pulse. This technique is hand for children, the elderly and osteoporotic patients. However, anyone can benefit from this technique.
Additional therapies
Our practice employs many physical therapy methods, including ultrasound, and electrical muscle stimulation to complement our other techniques.
